What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a controlled treatment and a safe skin care procedure that intensely exfoliates and resurfaces the skin. It is the leading skincare treatment in the UK & Ireland for complete skin rejuvenation.
What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that uses fine crystals and a vacuum to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells from the outer layer. Although microdermabrasion is most well known as a facial treatment, it can be used on most areas of your body such as your face, neck, chest, back and hands, if they require exfoliation. This safe procedure is designed to reduce fine lines, minor scars, wrinkles, sun damage and age spots to make your skin smoother and younger looking.
The treatment uses a stream of non-allergenic crystals (crystal microdermabrasion) to remove your skin’s outermost layers of dead cells. Your therapist will use a handheld device to direct the stream of crystal over the treatment area and, where necessary, target specific zones. The handset then uses a mild suction to draw away the crystal and skin debris to reveal your new and improved complexion.
Microdermabrasion removes the top layers of the skin called the stratum corneum. Similarly to brushing your teeth, microdermabrasion helps to remove the debris from your skin. Human skin regenerates at 30 day intervals and regular microdermabrasion treatments performed every 7-10 days (which is what we recommend during a course of treatment) will ensure continued improvement for your skin concerns.
The SkinBase™ Facial is chemical free and non-invasive yet achieves amazing results revealing younger, healthier looking skin from the very first treatment. The skin’s appearance is further improved through increased collagen & elastin production as your body produces a new layer of skin.
No recovery time is required after having microdermabrasion and most people return to daily activity immediately following a session.
How Does Microdermabrasion Work?
During a microdermabrasion treatment, a fine jet of abrasive crystals gently removes dead skin cells layer by layer and a vacuum action lifts away the debris, stimulating the blood flow and encouraging collagen and elastin formation. This is a type of microdermabrasion that uses crystals to exfoliate your skin. Read more…

Are There Any Downsides to Microdermabrasion?
Is Microdermabrasion suitable for everyone?
For darker skin tones, higher intensities can cause an uneven lightening effect. Your therapist will use a lower intensity treatment at all times on these skin types. Pregnant clients should not have treatments due to hormone changes in the body which may cause pigmentation. Those who have rosacea or extensive broken capillaries should also avoid microdermabrasion treatments because of the vacuum action. Rest assured, your SkinBase therapist will complete a thorough consultation prior to treatment to check your suitability for the treatment.
